Nestled in the wooded surroundings of the Aa River valley, Natuurpoort Kasteel Heeswijk is an ideal starting point for a walk or bike ride. The castle has stood for about 1,000 years, long serving as an impregnable fortress on the Aa River, surrounded by marshes. From the castle, you can take beautiful walks through the woods, lanes, and fields of the estate. The castle moat is home to castle carp and black swans. The kingfisher is also a regular visitor. Enjoy coffee, lunch, or a drink at De Barones. The castle is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In January, it is only open on Saturdays and Sundays. The castle is located on an island near the Dommel River and dates from around 1400, but is no longer in its original state. It was likely renovated between 1504 and 1509 by Jan Heyns, one of the architects of St. John's Cathedral in 's-Hertogenbosch.

This castle still looks so well maintained. Imagine working at the school next door. Then you have a great view. By the way, there is a restaurant in the castle. Stimulate your senses and be surprised! On our atmospheric terrace and in the coach house restaurant you can enjoy a seasonally inspired menu. On Sundays between 12:00 and 18:00 the castle is open for lunch or a cozy drink. Lunch menu The kitchen is open 12:00 – 18:00.

It is wonderful to walk around the castle in the Sterrebos. You will find a large parking lot there. The center of Vught is (across the footbridge) a stone's throw away.
