The Haastrecht Hefbrug is a striking, manually operated drawbridge over the Hollandse IJssel River, built in 1883 to replace a ferry. It connects the center of Haastrecht with the Stein district and has become a historical and cultural icon. The bridge opens only a few times a day and sometimes causes waiting times for recreational boaters.

Sat there on the terrace again this week. Certainly a nice break with all those boats, walkers and cyclists!

The bridge alone is beautiful to look at, but with the church in the background it's simply amazing.

In addition to the two mills, there are also two locks. A lock and an inundation lock. The inundation lock was used to flood the polder in times of war. In order to protect this lock, two group shelters Type P were placed nearby.
