As a lowlander, I wasn't sure that the last stretch from the Kaufbeurer Haus up to the Bretterspitze would be feasible for an inexperienced person like me. But I was lucky, because in the two weeks before, the DAV had cleared and marked a clearly visible path, especially over the scree fields. The last stretch up to the top was characterized by small climbs, but I never had to overcome obstacles over 1.6-1.8 m high. So more than doable, even for a beginner. However, those who climb from Hinterhochbach should bring the strength for the 1500 meters in altitude!

Brilliant peak! Ascent from the church in Hinterhornbach via the Schwabegger Hütten, the Fuchsensattel and the Kalten Winkel. The path was a bit overgrown at first, but this has improved over time. In my eyes, however, the path does not really have much added value. I'm going steeply uphill and from the Schwabegger Hütten you only go through the heat caused by the mountain pines. However, this improves from the point where you leave the mountain pines, just before the junction to Bäumeheimer Weg. From there it goes along a beautiful path below part of the Hochvogel in the direction of the Fuchsensattel. It continues through a single huge boulder field to the Kalter Winkel. If you are a little practiced, the path is not a problem, but you can also see many hikers who do not have the right footwear and/or lack experience and who manage the steep sections of the scree field with more luck than brains. Tip: decent shoes, I went with crampon-safe Lowas, maybe a bit overkill for the experienced. The last passage to the summit is no longer particularly difficult, only the rock slab right at the beginning is on the descent, at least I'm not quite comfortable, but in the end it's not a real problem. Anyone who has made it this far will be rewarded with a wonderful view on nice days, you can even see the Ortler and the Wildspitze! The further descent is no longer a big problem for those who have already made it up without any problems, even if you have to climb a few more meters.

From the gable house as a day tour at the beginning of August 2021, 18.7 km at more than 1700hm, the Oberhammer. After a good 200 km journey by car, then in Hinterstein took the first bus at 07:15 am, from the gable house to the Luitpold house and strengthened there for the time being. Then climbed the Hochvogel via Kreuzspitze, enjoyed Vespers and the most wonderful view a little longer. On the descent I am down the Kalten Winkel, quite steep and the rope anchored there is not particularly helpful, so you should be careful. Nevertheless: that day it went like a single piece. Altogether quite demanding but due to the length of the tour, the wheat on the descent in the Luitpoldhaus and Giebelhaus were drop in the ocean. At the end with the last bus back to Hinterstein and then another 200 km home. You can't do much more in one day.

The Kaufbeurer Haus is a hut at 2,007 meters on the lower edge of the Urbeleskar. It's only catered for on weekends (then the flag is hoisted). It can be reached from Hinterhornbach in about two and a half hours via a fairly steep but not difficult ascent. Some slippery spots. Not recommended in the rain. Great view of the Hochvogel. From there you can climb the Bretterspitze (about 1.5 hours) or continue via the Enzensberger Weg to the Prinz-Luitpold-Hütte. The more difficult to climb Urbeleskarspitze can also be reached.
