It wasn't easy to find the way to the Plattachsee. We crossed the mountain stream on a snowfield and at the end of the tour we read a sign saying "Do not cross snowfields, danger to life". Please do not try this, but pay attention to the signs first.

The Hintersee is beautifully situated in the valley floor against the impressive backdrop of a mountain range over 2700 m high in the west (with the Geißköpfe as well as the Geiering and Hochbirghöhe) and the almost three thousand meter high Tauernkogel (2,988 m) in the south. On the mountain slopes in the south you can see the Felberbach, which rushes down powerfully (with waterfalls) from the Plattachsee above. To the southeast you can see the steep mountain slopes over which the paths lead to and from the St. Pöltener Hütte. Benches on the meadows by the shore invite you to take a rest.

The Plattachsee is located in front of a mountain backdrop rising to the west (with peaks over 2700 m high) and the 2988 m high Tauernkogel in the southwest in a wide valley at around 2200 m altitude together with smaller lakes and the Langsee. Many of the neighboring mountains and mountain slopes are reflected in the clear water on the smooth surface in an impressive way. The Felberbach flows strongly from the lake down into the valley to the Hintersee.
