🐑✨ The dike sheep are the unsung heroes of the East Frisian coast, ensuring that the land behind the dike remains safe and dry. They are far more than just a beautiful photo opportunity – they are irreplaceable partners in coastal protection.

Low German for "Green Place" - part of an old dune landscape on Borkum. The Greune Stee is a transitional area between dunes, forest, and heath. It is considered one of the few areas on the East Frisian Islands where natural dune forest has developed. Typical features include: • Dune landscape with partially vegetated sand dunes • Deciduous and coniferous forest (e.g., birch, pine, oak) • Heath and grassland areas • Protected habitats for numerous bird species and insects When using the area, especially the paved paths, please be mindful of the many slow walkers, some with dogs. You should slow down. Best viewpoint: Herrmannshöhe at the corner of Greune Stee Weg and Jakob van Dyken Weg.

The dike path on the landward side is often the somewhat more sheltered route.

I always enjoy driving along the coastal roads. I like the peace and quiet there. But be careful when the ground is damp. When rain mixes with sheep droppings, it gets very slippery.

The Old Town Hall has a long history and is an important example of North German Renaissance architecture in East Frisia.

It serves as a museum and is the headquarters of the Norderland local history society. It also houses the historic Theelachtskammer (Theatrical Chamber) and the former council chamber "Rummel," which is now used by the Norden registry office as a historic wedding room.

The path through the dunes is very beautiful and offers some protection from the wind.
