A great hiking and cycling route.

Hi, We had a great hike today in the Duhner Heide nature reserve in Cuxhaven. We explored the Duhner Heide, which is a protected area, and it was wonderful – well worth a visit, even in February 💝. A quick trip to the beach was a must, of course – always beautiful 😊. A fantastic cycling and hiking trail runs through the beautiful natural surroundings. 🚢 The Cuxhaven Sea Lock The lock ensures that the water levels in the harbor basins of the Old and New Fishing Ports remain largely constant, regardless of the North Sea tides. Location: It is located near Präsident-Herwig-Straße (at the Old Fishing Port). Function: It protects the vessels moored there (fishing boats, government vessels, and recreational boats) from the strong tidal range of the Elbe River, which can reach up to three meters in Cuxhaven.

🏗️ In Cuxhaven, the term "Große Schleuse" (Great Lock) usually refers to the Cuxhaven sea lock. It is the technical bottleneck between the Elbe (North Sea) and the inner harbor basins of the fishing port.

🔭Altenbruch observation tower: Located directly on the dike in Altenbruch, it offers a panoramic view of the Elbe estuary. Since the shipping channel runs very close to the shore here, this is the best place to see the huge container ships almost at eye level.
