Lake Rørbæk is fed by the Skjern River, which rises 2.5 km southeast of the lake. Kulsø lies slightly west of Lake Rørbæk. Lake Rørbæk was formed in a dead-end sinkhole in the Tunnel Valley. Sand and gravel deposited in the dead ice formed several small islands, most of which are merely elevations on the lakeshore. [2] On the eastern part of the Kælderbanke ridge, south of the lake, there is a 15 × 6 m cellar, 1.5 m deep, made of boulders. [3] These are the remains of the Gammel Rørbæk farmstead, which was burned down by Swedish troops in 1657 during the First Charles Gustav War and was not rebuilt. [ 1 ] A few hundred meters south of Kælderbanke lies Ballesbækgård, where there is a small museum. [ 1 ] The lake forms the border between the municipalities of Ikast-Brande and Vejle.

Børkop Mill (Børkop Mølle) is one of Denmark’s best-preserved and oldest watermills. This historic complex features a picturesque half-timbered mill building, which operated commercially until 1970. Today, it stands as a cultural and natural landmark, functioning as a museum, a restaurant, and a popular site surrounded by scenic nature trails along the mill stream.

Rørbæk Lake is a stunningly beautiful spot along the Hærvejen hiking route. The clear water and quiet atmosphere make it a perfect place to pause for a break and enjoy the natural beauty of the area. On a warm day, you can even take a refreshing swim in the lake. It is a fantastic highlight for those seeking a moment of tranquillity on their journey.

Expansive shelter site with toilets, firewood, drinking water and many a fire/grill spot. Great to spend the night on a thru hike and a great spot to watch the sunset!

Here you will find a lovely spot for a break with a view of the lake. Rørbæk Sø was formed during the ice age. It is surrounded by forest and steep slopes with heather and juniper bushes.

The Bindeballestien 36 is a scenic cycling route. When cycling this trail, be sure to bring a camera, as the path offers beautiful views of forests and lakes. It’s also a relatively easy route, making it suitable for cyclists of all levels.

What a pleasure to be able to take this wooded road so close to the city of Vejle. Fallow deer can be seen in this public park.
