This spot – which can be reached, among other places, along the "Path of Silence" (Sentiero del Silenzio) – was dedicated to "Papa Giovanni Paolo II" (Pope John Paul II), whose real name was Karol Wojtyla. He was born in Wadowice, Poland, in 1920 and, after the death of Pope John Paul I in 1978, was elected – to almost everyone's surprise – as his successor at the head of the Catholic Church. As a young man, he had experienced dictatorships under the Nazi regime in German-occupied Poland and later under communist rule. During the so-called "Cold War," his support for freedom movements, especially in Eastern Europe, and his contribution to the fall of the so-called "Iron Curtain" were correspondingly strong and passionate. Karol Wojtyla (Giovanni Paolo II) died in the Vatican in 2005 after a long illness.

CIPPO DI NICCOLAI: monument erected in memory of Eugenio Niccolai, Captain of the Sassari Brigade who fell on 31 January 1918 in the First Battle of the "Three Mountains" (Valbella, Col del Rosso and Col d'Echele), which was decisive in halting the advance of the Austro-Hungarian army towards the Vicenza plain below.

Simple and educational trail. The solar system is shown along the path at a scale of 1/1 billion. It was carried out by the staff of the Asiago astrophysical observatory. Each planet is in scale of size and distance as in the solar system. For each planet there are explanatory panels. Don't miss it!

On the Asiago plateau, not far from Col de Rosso, there is this pyramid-shaped monument. It is dedicated to the memory of Captain Eugenio Nicolai, hero of the Sassari Brigade and Gold Medal for Military Valor, who died in these very areas in 1918, during the First World War.

The Asiago Military Memorial and Ossuary stands majestically on Leiten Hill (pronounced "Làiten"), where the ancient district of the same name once stood, destroyed in the First World War and never rebuilt. Now, only a single house remains, behind the monument. The project was part of a vast and grandiose national project of the Fascist regime in the 1930s: to gather the remains of Italian soldiers who lost their lives in the Great War, scattered across the war cemeteries, in monumental ossuaries to honor their memory and sacrifice for the homeland. In particular, the Asiago Ossuary was used to bury the remains of fallen Italian soldiers from 35 cemeteries scattered across the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni: 34,000 Italians, of whom 21,000 are unknown. To these, in the 1970s, in agreement with Austria, 20,000 Austro-Hungarian remains were added, 12,000 of which are unknown, also from local cemeteries. A total of 54,000 bodies. Built between 1932 and 1936, its imposing mass reflects the finest Roman and imperial architecture, with sober and solemn lines. Austere, it dominates the entire valley and is visible from great distances and from the surrounding peaks of the plateau. The structure has a square plan and four perfectly symmetrical fronts: the crypt (the base) measures 80m on each side and 7m high; the triumphal arch measures 23m on each side and 47m high; the span of the large arches is 9x22m. To provide the building materials, 15 stone quarries were opened within a 20km radius. Inside the monument is a small museum with interesting artifacts from the Great War and a description of the events on the plateau. The Ossuary of Asiago, Pasubio, Monte Grappa, and Tonezza del Cimone are symbols of the province of Vicenza, appearing in its coat of arms. https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sacrario_militare_di_Asiago https://www.difesa.it/il-ministro/ufficio-per-la-tutela-della-cultura-e-della-memoria-della-difesa/veneto/asiago-sacrario-militare/49619.html
