Porta Venezia is one of Milan's historic main gates, opening into the Spanish bastions. It was later redesigned in the Neoclassical era for two new functions: as a customs barrier and as a triumphal entrance to the city. Its original name was Porta Orientale. In Alessandro Manzoni's The Betrothed, Renzo Tramaglino entered through this very gate to search for Lucia Mondella.

Villa Mirabello, a wonderful example of 17th-century architecture and residence, was built in the mid-17th century by the Durini family, who had purchased the fiefdom of Monza in 1648.
