Sarmede is renowned as the "land of fairy tales" for the numerous activities dedicated to children and for the presence of the international illustration school, the training center of the Stepan Zavrel foundation. The walls of the houses are adorned with wonderful murals. The creative influence of the Czech illustrator, who resided here from 1968 to 1999, is evident. Walking through the streets of the town, it is possible to admire numerous buildings frescoed in his honor, such as the town hall or the house of Fantasy.

The Strada del Patriarca was an ancient and busy communication route that reached the Cansiglio plateau, thus connecting to nearby Alpago and the Piave Valley. In the Middle Ages the main artery was represented by the "Strada Alemagna" which passed through the Val Lapisina through the narrow Serravalle. Tensions with the Da Camino led Sacile, which remained linked to the Patriarchate of Aquileia, to remain isolated as a borderland. so that in 1274 the Patriarch Raimondo della Torre was asked to open an alternative route for the exploitation of the woods. The road was probably already traced at the end of the XII century, in conjunction with the Castle of Caneva. The road network was declared free from tax, therefore passable by all those merchants who, at the cost of greater efforts, could reach the Valbelluna and, vice versa, the markets of Sacile and the waterways of the Livenza. In 1420 the Venetians conquered Friuli and the patriarchate of Aquileia ceased to exist; the Patriarch's Road thus lost importance, even if it continued to be used for forestry and agricultural activities. Only a few evidences of this ancient road remain today; it appears in several points, in its original size, with traces of fillings, retaining walls, sediments and engravings in the rock. It is retraced by trail marker 1060 (Sentiero del Patriarca). The route begins in Villa di Villa, near the Strada dei Faidei, not far from the ruins of the Castle of Cordignano. It reaches Lamar and the Parco dei Carbonai touching various places of historical importance.

This fresco, drawn on a thin, cream-colored house, recalls a former cyclist from these areas: Vito Favero (Sarmese, 1932 - Sarmede, 2014) won two stages in the Giro d'Italia and finished second in the 1958 Tour de France.

Col Alt (866 m) is a modest but panoramic hill in the Treviso Pre-Alps overlooking the territory of Cordignano. On clear days the view sweeps from the Euganean Hills to the Venice lagoon and it is not uncommon to spot buzzards in flight. A war memorial in the shape of an obelisk with an eagle on the tip was erected on its top. During the Liberation Struggle (1943-1945), Col Alt, due to its strategic position dominating the plain, became an important outpost of the partisan groups operating in Cansiglio. The task of garrisoning it belonged to the Luciano Manara battalion. On November 14, 1944, the battalion was attacked, by surprise, by about sixty Nazi-Fascists who had come up from Villa di Villa. In the clash, 7 men lost their lives. The monument was built immediately after the war by the partisans of the Hunters of the Alps Brigade, in memory of the 406 comrades of the Garibaldi Division Nino Nannetti who died in Cansiglio. In 1954 it suffered the insult from the neo-fascist hand that broke the eagle's wings, then being skilfully restored.

The locality takes its name from the small church dedicated to Sant'Antonio da Padova, built around 1930 on a pre-existing votive shrine of the 1700s. Until the end of the 1960s it was an obligatory stop on the path of transhumance from the Cansiglio mountain pastures and the period of stay in the huts halfway up. In fact, the mule track passed through the Saint which, through Lama Rossa and Tre Buse, reached Malga Fosse and Crosetta. During the whole period of the Resistance, the relays and the partisan formations directed to the plains to collect supplies passed there.
