Origins and reconstruction The first evidence of the church dates back to the 12th century, with a mention in a papal bull of Alexander III in 1176. The original building, from the Gothic era, was oriented on the east-west axis and had an apse structure facing east. Over the centuries, the church underwent several modifications, until a complete reconstruction between 1870 and 1873, designed by the architect Giuseppe Lancia. During the restoration work in 2010, the foundations and perimeter walls of the ancient church emerged, visible today through a glass window in the crypt. The wooden choir is a 19th-century work by Reirosa d'Ivrea, while the organ, built in 1896 by the Vegezzi-Bossi company of Turin, is composed of about 1000 pipes and is used during concerts and celebrations.
