해발 2,387미터에 위치한 페닌 알프스의 탁 트인 전망을 자랑하는 우아한 봉우리로, 그레소네이-생-장과 브뤼송 국경의 몬테 로사 발도스타 산기슭에 자리 잡고 있습니다. 등반은 잘 표시된 산악 하이킹 트레일을 따라 진행되지만, 탁월한 자연 발코니를 제공하는 탁 트인 능선으로 절정에 이릅니다. 이 특별한 지점에서 시선은 몬테 로사 산괴의 장엄한 얼음 벽과 아래의 푸른 계곡을 360도로 자유롭게 조망할 수 있으며, 정상에 도달하는 모든 사람에게 만족스러운 정복감을 선사합니다.

오로파 성역은 이탈리아 피에몬테에 있는 가장 중요한 마리아 숭배 장소 중 하나로, 비엘라 바로 위에 있는 오로파 계곡의 산악 경사면에 해발 약 1,159m에 위치해 있습니다. 종교적 역사, 인상적인 건축물, 주변 자연 경관으로 유명합니다.

As an excursion I have continued several times to Cima Mucrone, passing by "Limbo", while when there is snow and it is good, ski-skins and climb up to here or to the ridge a little higher. Marian sanctuary built according to tradition in the 4th century, Oropa contains an important statue of the Black Madonna and in 1957 Pope Pius XII elevated it to a minor basilica. The climb that leads to the sanctuary was made famous by Marco Pantani's feat, perhaps the most memorable of all: in the 1999 Giro he won here with an epic comeback.

The Palasinaz valley is surrounded by beautiful peaks that reach 3000 meters and is dotted with alpine lakes. On a grassy clearing above a rocky knoll is the Arp refuge which dominates the whole valley.

Very important climb, once you get to the sanctuary you feel at peace with yourself.

The Sanctuary of Oropa is a famous place for those who love cycling due to a historical event, perhaps the apex of Marco Pantani's career. 82nd Giro d'Italia, 30 May 1999: going up to the Sanctuary from the Cossila side, Pantani has a mechanical problem and is forced to lose contact with the leaders and recover. Gradually, thanks to an epic ride, he overtook his opponents and went on to win with twenty-one seconds over Jalabert. The last time the Giro d'Italia arrived here, at the Marian shrine dedicated to the Black Madonna, in 2017, Tom Dumoulin won.
