Hill separating the Cervo Valley from the Lys Valley. At the end of June 2025, high presence of mosquitoes.

Colle della Mologna Grande (about 2,390m) connects Valle Cervo to Valle di Gressoney along the Alta Via n. 1. Reachable from Piedicavallo via a well-preserved historic mule track, it is a panoramic itinerary that passes by the Rivetti Refuge and offers spectacular views as far as Mont Blanc.

The new road that comes from Camandona does not join here but goes directly to Bocchetto, this downhill road leads to Sagliano

Length about 6.2 km, average gradient 9%. The most challenging part is immediately after the village of Orbeillaz, it is about 2 km from 12 to 17% gradient! Tackled for the first time by professionals during the Giro d'Italia 2018, on the stage towards Cervinia.

technical highlight inserted to facilitate those unfamiliar with the area in the search for the graft - not immediately perceptible from the main road - of the dirt road classified as S0 with the Panoramica Zegna, to descend into the underlying Cervo valley avoiding the asphalted roads. A little below is the small chapel of the Alpine troops, and below is the Agriturismo Arbo.

It is the most easily accessible hill on the Cresta, especially from the Valle d'Aosta side, and does not present any technical difficulties.

The climb offers a unique view: the Mont Blanc massif appears behind it. I recommend stopping at La baita di Lidia to eat. If you do not intend to descend on the Piedmont side from Colle del Loo, you can continue to col Lazouney and then continue up to Niel.
