The Wertach originates near the border with Austria in Bad Hindelang, through the confluence of the two streams Kaltenbrunnenbach & Eggbach, and flows into the Lech near Augsburg after 141km.

The Afrawald (or Afrawäldchen) in Schwabmünchen stretches over 2 km from Feldgieß in the north to Hiltenfinger Keller in the south. The idyllic path runs along a slope beside streams and ponds, providing almost continuous shade.

VitalWEG ​ With a length of around three kilometers and ten fitness stations, the VitalWEG offers ideal and complementary training options for your endurance training. The path leads you through the beautiful landscape of Schwabmünchen. From the starting point at the car park on Riedstraße/Luitpoldpark, the path leads along the Birkensteig over the Bader-Huber-Steg to the Afrawald and back again via the orchard and the TSV sports grounds. At the starting point, an information board describes the exact route.

The Feldgießgraben is the right tributary of the Wertach near Schwabmünchen and is diverted as a left branch of the Singold in the town. After the dam, the ditch flows together with the fish ladder into the Wertach, a cross connection between Singold and Wertach.

The straightening of the Wertach caused the groundwater level to drop significantly and the aim was to counteract this negative development by building the sill power stations. This went online in 1956 and has been supplying electrical energy for 68 years since then.
