The Wendish Tower, or Serbska wěža in Sorbian, is part of Bautzen's medieval city fortifications. It is located on the northeastern edge of the old town and is now structurally connected to Gottfried Semper's Old Barracks (Stara kaserna). The square in front of the city wall at the Reichenturm has had a variety of uses throughout history: tanners and cloth makers were located here, parades were held, and grain was traded. In 1999, the square was redesigned and provided with three water basins. The designs were by K. and W. Korn, and the layout is somehow reminiscent of windows and roofs. The flowing water creates many beautiful effects on the translucent surfaces.
