Departing from the Cagli camper area, we begin along the ancient aqueduct trail and for over 6 km it's all uphill, without a moment's respite, but on perfectly passable and safe trails. At the top of Mount Petrano, 1100m above sea level, the view is spectacular; the village at the summit is uninhabited because it's a summer tourist destination. We returned the same way we came. Total time, including breaks, was approximately 6 hours.

The parish church, dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian, Eastern physicians, martyrs under Diocletian, stands along the road leading to the sanctuary of the same name. The current building dates back to the 12th-13th centuries and appears to have stood within the fortifications of a castle, the Canoscio Castle itself. Its lord, probably having fallen into disgrace due to disagreements with the municipality, was stripped of his possession, which subsequently passed into the hands of the Vitelli family and, subsequently, to other families. It stands on the site of a previous place of worship from the early Christian era (2nd-6th centuries AD) and is located in an area of particular archaeological interest, as evidenced by the numerous discoveries of Etruscan artifacts.

The Roman theater, whose construction began in the 1st century BC and was completed between 55 and 20 BC. With a maximum width of approximately 70 meters, the theater is divided into two levels, reaching a total height of approximately 12 meters. Originally, the theater had two tiers of arches, of which the lower arch and a section of the upper arch remain, embellished with large limestone blocks in opus quadratum with rusticated ashlar. The entrance corridors, the "vomitoria," show traces of opus reticulatum.

The history of Pietralunga is at least as rich as the variety of names this place has had over the millennia. Founded by the Umbrians with the name of Tufi, it later came under the influence of Rome with the name of Forum Julii Concupiensium. Razed to the ground during the barbarian invasions, it was rebuilt with the name of Plebs Tuphiae. Over time the vast fields that surround it earned it the name of Pratalonga, a name that persisted until the advent of the Kingdom of Italy which Italianized it into Pietralunga.

The area where the town of Pietralunga stands has been inhabited since prehistoric times, however the first inhabited center was founded by the Umbrians while it was the Romans who later left the valley below to settle in today's position. The current town has a typical medieval appearance with the oldest nucleus developing around the Rocca and the Parish Church of Santa Maria.

The small medieval town of Pietralunga is located in northern Umbria on a hill in the northeastern area of the Upper Tiber Valley. As numerous finds and preserved ruins from Roman antiquity show, the settlement is very old (Forum Julii Concupiensium).
