We boarded the bikes on the train (with the baby in tow, we saved time and the dangers of the state road between the forum of francavilla and ortona), we got off at the station in ortona and from there only the cycle path up to fossacesia! Whenever the schools of fish move from east to west, the fishermen throw out their nets on the cliffs. They have developed the clever technology of the Trabucchi for this. Wooden outriggers that reach far out to sea from the rock and hold a net bowl that can be lowered into the water. When the shoal has drifted in, the fishermen pull up the bowl. For many years they always had a good catch. Nowadays these trabucchi are rarely still in operation and are only preserved for tourist purposes. Fish restaurants are sometimes located on the well-preserved foothills.
