One of the few trabocchi, not transformed into a restaurant and visitable thanks to the availability of the custodian who invites you to enter, telling you the history of this artifact. Located in Abruzzo, in Fossacesia, SS16, 66020 Piane Favaro. It is a wonderful place to see. Highly recommended for families and couples. You can appreciate the beauty of the sea and the uncontaminated territory. It is easily reached from the road and the cycle path in the old railway path that runs along the entire promontory of the trabocchi. The only access to the trabocco is the former railway track.

continues.. As soon as the news of the creation of the work to be immersed on the seabed was released, there was a heartfelt and sincere request from the local population, inspired by religious reasons, for the placement of an identical statue on land for easy access and to stop for moments of reflection. On August 7, 1994, in the presence of numerous divers, civil, military and religious authorities, after the blessing of the statues, the Divers of the ORSA MINORE Association of Lanciano placed one of the two examples of the Christ of the Abyss on the seabed in front of the small port, at a depth of about 4 meters: The statue was anchored on a majestic concrete base whose construction required considerable logistical and technical effort. On land, a few steps from this information panel, at the entrance to the port, the second example of the statue was positioned to protect fishermen and devotees. In the summer of 2018, the submerged statue was stolen. The shock and outcry caused by that sacrilegious gesture were great. The reactions were immediate, and after a few months of continuous research, they led to the discovery and repositioning of the "Christ of the Abyss" in its original location. The participation of the entire community was broad and highly emotional, testifying to the symbolic value assumed by the image of Christ. To this day, the daring theft and the fortuitous discovery in the sea about 5 km away from the site remain a mystery. To protect the statue, the cult and the traditions that have consolidated over time, the ASSOCIAZIONE CRISTO DEGLI ABISSI was established in 2020, which takes care of its exclusive management. Every year in the month of AUGUST, the traditional festival of the Christ of the Abyss takes place with a celebratory mass accompanied by an evocative torchlight procession in the sea.

For you who pass through this place, whatever your spiritual conviction, CHRIST OF THE ABYSS is an invitation to stop for a moment of meditation and reflection inspired by the vastness of the sea and the sky that you have in front of you. If you are a believer and you regularly visit these places, this image also wants to be "A testimony of Christianity, a continuous and constant reason for aggregation between the people of the sea and the land." This symbolic place was born from the dream of two friends to "spread and pass on the traditions, including religious ones, of the people of Abruzzo". The idea was strengthened with the sharing of the community and the support of those cultural, sports and service associations that also lent themselves by offering their economic contribution. In 1994, with the collaboration of the ORSA MINORE Diving Association of Lanciano, the ROTARY CLUB Lanciano, the PA-NATHLON CLUB Lanciano and the SCOGLIO DEL GABBIANO Association of Vallevò, the sculptor Vito Pancella was commissioned to create a bronze statue to be immersed in the seabed of the Costa dei Trabocchi. continues...

The Christ of the Abyss, a bronze work by the sculptor Vito Pancella, returned to the sea today, after being stolen on June 4 and found on July 1 in the waters of the port of San Vito Chietino. The statue, 73 centimeters tall and weighing 15 kilos, was placed back at a depth of 6 meters in front of the small port of Vallevò in Rocca San Giovanni where it had been located since August 7, 1994.
