In 1356, with the issuance of the Golden Bull by Emperor Charles IV, towns, including Wittichenau, were granted the right to brew beer. The beer was largely brewed in private, business and trading houses. A joint brewery was founded in 1435. At its peak, 95 citizens in Wittichenau with brewing rights brewed beer in their own homes and sold it in taverns. At the beginning of the 18th century, the communal brewery was built on the market square. This was demolished in 1890 and moved to the existing malt house.

That's a great route! It feels like a nice, wide bike path, but unfortunately it's not completely car-free. Nevertheless, it's a wonderful ride through the shady forest. I want to go along here again!

There are various benches for resting and looking. However, if you want a café or ice cream stand, I have to pass. I haven't spotted either of them.

Always worth a trip. The great St. Catherine's Church in Ralbitz with its spectacular cemetery with the gleaming white uniform wood crosses.
