Special landscape. There was little going on and pleasantly quiet.

The Pulo di Altamura is the largest karst sinkhole in Alta Murgia, located 6 km north of Altamura, in Puglia. This natural formation has a diameter exceeding 500 meters and a depth between 70 and 75 metres. The site was inhabited in prehistoric times, and is full of caves, some of which contained traces of ancient human and religious settlements. Pulo is also a habitat for various unique plant and animal species.

Splendid rural building near the Columbus cave, accessible along a path located at the beginning of the main street.

From the countryside you can enjoy a beautiful view of the town of Altamura.

The vegetation opens up and we can admire the panorama of the Alta Murgia National Park which extends for 677.4 square km.

Here, in an abandoned quarry, very numerous (about 20,000) dinosaur footprints dating back to about 70 million years ago have been discovered. The footprints have proven to be well preserved and have now been sorted into a row. These are footprints of over 200 specimens of at least 5 different species.

The Grotta del Colombo, like many other caves in the surrounding area, was born thanks to the karst phenomena that affect the area. In ancient times they were a place of refuge for prehistoric men.
