We enter the church; a service is in progress, and it's noticeable that Sorbian is still actively spoken here. We don't want to disturb them any further. We continue our walk through the grounds, reach the monastery café, and take a seat. After a while, we head back outside and are surprised by a flood warning sign. A few meters away, the Klosterwasser stream babbles along, almost like a brook, several meters below. We return to the church. Now, after the service, let's take another look inside. It's built in the Late Gothic style. The interior is beautiful, too, with a view of the altar and the interplay of red and white tones. The gallery is lined with statues. A wonderful 1,000 hectare pond landscape with countless species of water birds, such as whooper and mute swans, herons, swimming and diving ducks and sea eagles. Unfortunately, this idyll is marred by the fact that the private owner regularly organizes "waterfowl hunts" here, especially for mallards.

Small round trip from Kindisch via Elstra, Prietitz and Gödlau

The small chapel, built in 1953, is the center of the small Sorbian village outside the gates of Wittichenau. From the 16-meter-high tower, the bell, probably the oldest in the diocese, calls people to prayer. It dates back to the 14th century and was originally used in the Wittichenau parish church.
