In the small town of Opi, in Abruzzo, there are countless karst springs and one of these forms the Fondillo stream. It is one of the first tributaries of the Sangro stream, which gives its name to the valley of the same name.

Inside the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, surrounded by mountains, there is Lake Barrea which overlooks the three villages: Villetta Barrea, Barrea and Civitella Alfedena.

Forca Resuni, historical support of the Guardia Parco, is located in a strategic point, on one side the Lazio side, on the other the Risione Valley and in the distance you can admire the village of Barrea overlooking the lake of the same name.

A splendid valley that hosts a luxuriant beech forest and a spring where you can cool off.

From the pass you can enjoy a spectacular landscape, certainly one of the most beautiful in the park!

The Bosco della Difesa or Bosco dei Giganti is part of the Ancient Forests, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017. Inside these beech forests of the park there seem to be trees over 560 years old: the oldest in Europe.

The Grotta delle Fate is so called because the sound of the waters seems to recall their song. From the cavity flows pure and transparent water from which the Fondillo stream is born.
