The von Redens are an old noble family from Lower Saxony. One of its two main lines was that of the Franzburg, which was built as a manor house in Gehrden instead of a medieval fortification. The Franzburg itself had to be demolished decades ago, but what remains is a park with an avenue. If you imagine a continuation of the avenue over the houses that are there today to the nearby slope of the Köthnerberg, you will quickly find a forest cemetery. On the observation tower you can enjoy the great view and take beautiful pictures. There are two small garden benches to sit on and have something to eat or drink.

A massive observation tower, which unfortunately is very rare and only open for 2 hours. Here are the opening times: Every 3rd Sunday of the month October to February: 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. March to September: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. I have visited the place several times, but I haven't been up yet. The look should be good.
