At the foot of the Benther Berg, at the small village of Benthe, an old natural stone path leads up to the former Benther Berg terraces. The path is said to have been laid out in the 18th century, when Johannes Georg Ernst Rehbock opened a drinks stand in the forest, which later became the famous excursion restaurant. Especially from the western districts of Hanover, hordes of people made pilgrimages to the forest inn on the weekends to drink coffee sociably in the afternoon or to dance to the music of bands in the evening. Nowadays, in addition to the historical path, only a few ruins in the forest remind us of the exuberant times of yesteryear.
