Lake Moderfitz was first mentioned in a document in 1299 (stagnum Westwitz) and, along with 38 other named lakes, was part of the original estate of the Himmelpfort Monastery. The name may derive from the Old Polabian root form *Vostrovica, meaning "island," which applies to the island in the lake.

A very impressive sculpture. It can also serve as a sign for the shortest access to the great bathing area at Moderfitzsee (approx. 200m). The Sidowsee opposite can be completely circumnavigated on a beautiful path very close to the shore!

This great bathing spot is located on the Moderfitzsee. Characteristics: nice, firm sandy bottom, you gradually get deeper into the water (ideal for children), 2 islands for better swimmers. Large sandy beach! - The monk at the front of the road (large wooden sculpture) shows us the way. There are signs for hikers and cyclists, but drivers have to find their way differently.

This bridge has a certain spooky factor. It's quite attractive, but walking over the rotten planks is a bit spooky. It's best to hold on to the railing for safety. The metal construction gives us a false sense of security, as it stands on corroded wooden posts.
