12월 27, 2024, Swimming Area at Straussee
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can simply jump into the water here. But the view is worth it at any time of year and day.

The Fischerkiez is a cute little street down to the water right behind the town hall.

Straussee is located directly next to the town of Strausberg, which in turn is only 35 kilometers from Berlin and is well connected to the city by S-Bahn and regional trains. This makes the lake one of Berlin's bathtubs. This elongated body of water is fed by groundwater and connected to three other lakes via the Annafließ stream. The line runs from southwest to northeast; our hiking friends recognize the glacial channel. If you want to get an initial impression on Wikipedia, you'll come across a major problem that is of great concern to the people of Strausberg: the lake is losing water dramatically. The main causes are probably low rainfall, increased evaporation, and increased groundwater extraction. We were last here at the end of March 2019. Even then, the significantly lower water level was noticeable. Now, in the summer of 2021, the situation has been addressed in that the former sandy bottom of the lake is now being cleared for swimming areas.

In a later phase of the settlement process - this may have been around 1225 - a new margravial castle was required as the centre of power in the newly developed area. A bailiff was to act as the margrave's representative and take care of legal, fiscal and military matters. The highest point on the eastern shore of the Straussee was chosen as the location for this castle, then the farmers from the surrounding area had to carry out auxiliary construction work, the knights of the castle garrison were given farms in the foreground ("Kitterstraße"), servants were settled below the castle on the lake shore ("Kietz") and very soon the old road from Köpenick to Wriezen was given a new route directly past the castle.

Once around it's around 10km. You can also take a shortcut by ferry. But check the timetable: in winter only on weekends.

Unfortunately, the lido has been closed lately. Here and there are places where you can get into the water.

The ferry dock is ideal for a short rest. There are wooden tables and benches here and the view of the city across the lake is beautiful.

From the north bank of the Straussee you have a beautiful view of the lake and the wooded west bank.

The Straussee is an Ice Age trough lake that is located near the town of Strausberg named after it in the Brandenburg district of Märkisch-Oderland. It is located approximately 30 km northeast of Berlin in the forest and lake-rich landscape of eastern Barnim. The lake has an extent from northeast to southwest of about 3.8 km and is up to 340 m wide. Approximately in the middle of the lake it is crossed by the electrically operated Straussee ferry. In addition to the local residents, the lake is mainly used for local recreation by the population of nearby Berlin. There is a public swimming pool here and several free accesses for swimming. There is also the possibility of renting boats and a diving center. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straussee

If you don't mind the traffic noise of the bypass road, you are welcome to take a break there 😉. In any case, I rarely see people there. They are then more directly on the water, where it is a little more protected.
