The Fischerkietz is a settlement that originated at the beginning of the 13th century on the eastern shore of the Straussee. Originally, however, lived in this oldest residential area of Strausberg but no fishermen, but farmers who had to help around 1225 as a construction worker for a new castle on the shores of the lake.

From the shore you have a particularly beautiful view over the idyllic Straussee.

The Fischerkietz was formerly a settlement for servants and was located outside the city walls (access was formerly via a gate that was locked at night). Today, it offers one of the few ways within the Old Town to access the lakeshore directly.

The restaurant and conference center "Am Fischerkietz" is located directly on the Straussee.

In a later phase of the settlement process - this may have been around 1225 - a new margravial castle was required as the centre of power in the newly developed area. A bailiff was to act as the margrave's representative and take care of legal, fiscal and military matters. The highest point on the eastern shore of the Straussee was chosen as the location for this castle, then the farmers from the surrounding area had to carry out auxiliary construction work, the knights of the castle garrison were given farms in the foreground ("Kitterstraße"), servants were settled below the castle on the lake shore ("Kietz") and very soon the old road from Köpenick to Wriezen was given a new route directly past the castle.
