Hoensbroek Castle is one of the largest and best-preserved castles in the Netherlands and has been a striking landmark in the Limburg landscape for centuries. The origins of Hoensbroek Castle date back to the 13th century, when a fortified residential tower was built here on marshy ground. Noble families lived here for generations and continually expanded the castle, giving you a rare, comprehensive view of various architectural styles and periods. The castle pond was originally part of the defensive works. The water made the castle difficult to reach for attackers and reinforced the natural protection of the marshland. Today, the water reflects the robust walls and towers, creating beautiful vistas and photo opportunities. The pond has its own character in all seasons: misty and mysterious in the morning, lively with birds in the summer, and mirror-smooth in calm weather.

Located in the Voerendaal region, near Heerlen, it offers a beautiful blend of nature, history, and athletic challenge. 📈 Climb profile Length: approx. 2.15 km Elevation gain: around 73 m Average gradient: about 3.4% Steepest section (300 m): up to 6.1% 🛣️ Route The starting point is usually in Heerlen, via the Daelsweg and Dalstraat streets.
