Genesis, the Young Olav A giant youth emerging from a pool of water at St. Marie Plass is a site-specific landmark in Sarpsborg, Norway. Perched high on a steep hill, this old fortress has an amazing view of Kongsvinger and the Glomma below.

This spacious parking lot can accommodate many vehicles. There are several picnic tables, a dumpster, a trail map and information about the local nature reserve.

On the island of Prestøya you can also spend the night in one of the cabins. Information about this is available from the Norsk Skogmuseum.

The millennium sculpture "Genesis" by artist Finn Eirik Modahl was inaugurated by King Harald V on 29 July 2016 for Sarpsborg's millennium celebrations. The artwork refers to the founder of the city of Sarpsborg Olav the Saint and to the water. A young man of the present time is shown with a view into the future, emerging from the water. The 5 m high bust of Olav is made of reflective steel, in which everyone can reflect themselves.
