Little Vangen has a rich history. During the Second World War there were several courier routes here. Among them were those used by Gunnar Sønsteby, one of Norway's most celebrated wartime heroes. Known as 'Kjakan' (The Chin) and 'Agent No. 24', Rjunkan-born Sønsteby's actions led to him becoming the only person to have been awarded the highest Norwegian military accolade: the War Cross with three swords.

Erected in 1914, 'The land of peace' is a monument that pays tribute to 200 years of peace between Norway and Sweden. Nearby is the Peace Bell, which was installed in 2014. The monument marks the start of the Finnskogleden long-distance trail along the Norway/Sweden border.

Bæreia is a lake located close to Kongsvinger, surrounded by typical forest terrain. The road Bæreiavegen follows part of its shoreline, offering pleasant perspectives and nice views of the landscape.

Fågelåsen is the highest mountain in the area at 323 m. From the observation tower, which was built in 1999, you have a very wide view of the surrounding area as far as Norway. The path to the observation tower is very wet, so don't forget suitable footwear.

The slide is a great thing

Furniture factory built according to plans by the Danish Bjarke Ingels Group. The cross-shaped building in transparent wood blends wonderfully into the surrounding forest. A large staircase leads to the roof and a long slide leads back down. The outdoor area and the roof with slide are freely accessible.
