The 646 hectare "Leyhörn" nature reserve protrudes as a nose-shaped 👃 bulge into the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park and is of great importance as a flood-free, coastal 🐣 breeding and resting area with diverse biotope structures. The bottom line, however, is that we see a lot more 🐑 🐑 🐑 sheep here than 🦅🦆🦢🪶 birds 😅.

Bumblebees (Bombus) are a genus of social insects belonging to the true bees. The females of the Hymenoptera, whose stinging stings are found primarily in the temperate and cooler regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Depending on the species, a bumblebee colony consists of approximately 50 to 600 individuals and a queen. The majority of the individuals are workers, but the colony also includes males, which, like honeybees, are called drones, as well as young queens. A colony in Europe only survives one summer and usually dies by September. Only the mated young queens overwinter, and in the early spring of the following year, they begin building a nest on their own and thus establishing a new colony. Such queens reach an age of up to twelve months, of which they spend up to eight months in hibernation. Drones and workers, on the other hand, typically only reach an age of three to four weeks. The Leyhörn is a nature reserve on the peninsula of the same name in the south of the Leybucht in the Lower Saxony municipality of Krummhörn in the Aurich district, which was created in 1991 as part of coastal protection measures. The nature reserve with the registration number NSG WE 220 is 646 hectares in size. A large part of the nature reserve is part of the EU bird sanctuary “Krummhörn”. To the south and southeast it partly borders on the “Krummhörn” landscape protection area. The area has been protected since December 3, 1994.
