The Schwerin Palace Gardens are among the most beautiful gardens in Northern Germany, situated directly on the shores of Lake Schwerin and surrounded by the fairytale-like Schwerin Palace. Designed in the 19th century in the style of an English landscape garden, they impress visitors with their expansive lawns, magnificent flowerbeds, mature tree-lined avenues, and artful water features. Particularly worth seeing are the orangery, the palace bridge, and the numerous sculptures that lend the gardens an elegant flair. The palace gardens invite leisurely strolls and offer picturesque views of the palace and the surrounding lakes – a place where history, art, and nature blend harmoniously.

Beautifully designed trail of legends with all sorts of stories 😉 that are said to have happened. Numerous sculptures and a wonderful path under the oak trees towards the hunting lodge. The path is a bit bumpy, but still easy to cycle. During the week, the whole area is yours. Meaning, no other people around.

A very large and beautiful castle garden.

With its wide paths, the Schwerin Castle Garden is a great place for a run. From every bend you have a different, even more beautiful view of the castle.

Behind the castle, the castle garden is enchanting; here too, no expense was spared, with water channels, baroque rows of trees and sandstone figures by the Dresden master Balthasar Permoser.

The orangery is a two-winged building, the roof serves as a terrace, it is located in the axis of the main tower of the castle and is open to the sea. The inner courtyard is planted, to the southeast there is an arcade and the statue of Hercules taming a bull in the middle of the arcade. The palm garden and shell fountain, several accessible roof terraces and the sea grotto are part of the orangery.

The Victory Column on the Old Garden in Schwerin is a “monument to the Mecklenburgers who survived the war of 1870/71”. On the column stands the allegorical figure Megalopolis, which personifies the state of Mecklenburg.
