The municipality of Eggebek is heavily influenced by dairy farming. Lush meadows like from a picture-book along the Treene River and numerous dairy cows characterize the landscape. For the village square on Klinkenberg, which was redesigned at the turn of the millennium, Bernd Maro, with his trademark tongue-in-cheek flair, designed a whole kaleidoscope of rural animals. Scattered across the paved open space are several milking stools, buckets, and milk cans, surrounded by lively animals. A large dairy cow balances precariously on one of the stools, a stork curiously examines an open can. All sorts of small frogs and flies frolic among the foliage. So, there's much to discover that characterizes typical rural life – and much more. If you look closely, you'll discover the secret life of the frogs: One with a snorkel and diving mask, another playing loud music, while one hides behind a milk can from the voracious stork. Catch a unique view of the wide Treene valley and enjoy the peace and nature in this beautiful environment! The Treene habitat impresses with an impressive variety of animal and plant species. The Treene valley stretches over a length of around 50 kilometers and offers a varied landscape of forests, meadows and lakes. The area is home to numerous animal species, including rare bird species such as the black stork and the kingfisher. Otters, beavers and deer are also at home here. The diversity of the flora that unfolds in the various habitats is particularly impressive.

Wonderful forest round. How wonderful it must be in summer!

There is a slightly larger parking lot here, which is not shown on the komoot map. In Büschauer Holz there are predominantly non-native coniferous forest trees that were planted to reforest the heather. On the north-western edge of the forest, however, there are still old oak-beech forests, which represent the old original trees and are more than 200 years old. In large parts, this population grows along the edge of the slope of the Treene and consists of many gnarled tree shapes with twisted trunks and multiple crowns. Sometimes very rustic to look at. Large parts of this forest area have been removed from forestry use as natural forests. Several hiking and riding trails run through Büschauer Holz, most of which are not shown on the komoot map. As a local recreation area for hikers and riders, it is very important, since the forest areas in the north of Schleswig-Holstein are not so lush. During our hike, however, the area was not heavily frequented. Except for three riders and a few walkers, we were almost alone. It is also worth mentioning that there is a bridle path right next to the "Schiftenweg" road so that you do not have to walk on the road. (is not registered with komoot). Whereby the term "street" is a bit exaggerated. I would say "broad paved road". But still, you can rather walk next to it on sand, are separated from the road by a bend and have the feeling of still being in the forest. In any case, it is worth exploring the forest area. Not least because of the fantastic hiking trail along the Treene.
