A real highlight even without direct contact with the waterfalls. From the market square in Campione it takes 10-15 minutes to get to the tunnel if you are in good shape. From there you have a special view of the water system and can cool off in the flowing water in front of the tunnel.

Great hiking trail/climb through the gorge. You should have suitable footwear and some alpine experience! There are wire ropes on some of the rock walls to hold on to. Use these > danger of slipping!

10월 10, 2023, Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona
From this point you can enjoy a wonderful, if not the best, view of the rock church of Madonna della Corona near Spiazzi. On the way to the pilgrimage church you pass a Stations of the Cross with life-size figures and you keep looking down into the Adige Valley. The highest pilgrimage church in Italy is at an altitude of 773 meters and was built directly into and on the rock face. It is unmistakable that the church has merged with the rock, because the west and parts of the north wall consist largely of the rock of the mountain. The wall behind the altar of the Madonna della Corona is unusual and contains the miraculous image, a figure of the Virgin Mary with the body of Jesus on her knees (Pietà), surrounded by a crown of thorns and five groups of angels. The pilgrimage church was built in the 15th century, but there is said to have been a hermit church there from the 12th century. In 1982 the church was given the title “Basilica minor” and on April 17, 1988, Pope John Paul II visited the place of pilgrimage.

Danger. The path to the waterfalls is now pretty clearly cordoned off. You can still see a little bit and the landscape is still impressive. But you are denied the experience of being right on the water. It is possible to bypass the barrier if you have the will, but it is not recommended.

Can also be reached from Campione without a tunnel. But it has now been cordoned off so that you can only “catch” a glimpse.

The San Giovanni creek usually carries water all year round, so a walk along the creek is usually very refreshing, even if it is very steep uphill.

With its steep walls, the San Michele Gorge is a highlight on Lake Garda. To get here, you first have to go through the dimly lit tunnel.

8월 23, 2022, Sanctuary of Madonna della Corona
Madonna della Corona Pilgrimage Church near Spiazzi and a footpath with Stations of the Cross, 15 stations and life-size bronze figures leads from there to the church. The well-known place of pilgrimage nestles at a height (774 m above sea level) on a vertical rock face and is worth a visit simply because of this spectacular location. At first monks who belonged to the San Zeno monastery of Verona lived here, in 1434 the Santuario passed to the Maltese Cross Order. The sanctuary is located in Spiazzi, a hamlet of Caprino, and can be reached via the provincial road coming from Caprino. Alternatively, there is a two-hour hike along a pilgrimage route from Brentino, a hamlet on the east side of Monte Baldo. It's all uphill!

There are two ways of translating the name "Madonna della Corona" of this impressive sanctuary into German: * According to the first interpretation, Corona is the crown or the crowned one, so you could translate it as "Mother of God with a crown" or "Crowned Mother of God" (in German-speaking countries we would rather use the term "Queen of Heaven" for this). * According to another interpretation (which can be found on Wikipedia), Corona is an ancient word for rock or stone wall, so the name would refer to the location of this sanctuary.

It is possible to date the original structure of the sanctuary around the year 1000. Some medieval documents claim that a group of hermits lived near the Abbey. It was once only accessible by a dangerous path carved into the rock. The materials for the restoration and the provisions of the monastery were lowered with a pulley from the upper edge of the rocky ledge. Even today, from the church square with the nose up, you can see the structure.

Monte Baldo is actually not a summit, but a mountain range of over 30 km in length. The well-known "summit" can be reached via a cable car. If you have enough grain, you can also go up. Some of the runs are very technical. If it gets too violent, just push it, better than falling
