A well-maintained cycle path runs around the maar, and beautiful views are guaranteed.

The lake in the western part of the maar varies in diameter between 500 and 575 meters and is up to 21 meters deep. The Schalkenmehren Maar is the largest of the three Dauner Eifel Augen (Eifel Eyes). Here, you can not only take in the nature and fresh air while hiking, but also cool off in the maar after a strenuous hike. Very beautiful hiking trails around the lake and a wealth of nature. The Schalkenmehrener Maar is one of the three Dauner Maaren. It was formed by volcanic activity around 20,000 to 30,000 years ago. On a hot summer day you can refresh yourself in the cool water. Various cafes and restaurants invite you to take a break. No wonder this place is popular with day trippers. :)

There is a very long bench on the banks of the maar. There is bound to be a seat here.

"The Schalkenmehrener Maar is the largest of the three Dauner Maar and a so-called double maar. It consists of the western maar lake and the eastern dry maar. A volcanic steam explosion caused it to form around 10,500 years ago. While the Gemündener Maar and the Weinfelder Maar appear as nutrient-poor deep lakes, the third Dauner Maar differs significantly. The western Schalkenmehrener Maar is a rather flat maar lake and the silted up eastern part of the Schalkenmehrener Maar is a dry maar. Super tarred lower circular route around 3 km around the Schalkenmehrener Maar in the Vulkaneifel. Always with a view of the maar. Also suitable for wheelchair users. There are three trails at different heights around the maar.
