The Wittstock Gate is integrated into the construction of the "New Castle." The castle tower was built on top of the gate.

Freyenstein has had town charter since 1287, but today it has only about 800 inhabitants! It was first mentioned in a document as Virgenstene. Freyenstein's special feature is the archaeological park. Also worth mentioning is the Old Castle. It was built in the 16th century and is only partially preserved due to destruction during the Thirty Years' War. The church is a three-aisled hall church, built largely of fieldstone, with a fieldstone tower. Buttresses support the building on the outside, and the interior is topped with groin vaults. The altar, dating from the early 16th century, features a painting of the Transfiguration of Christ.

The fashion museum in Meyenburg Castle is a little insider tip! A great collection that goes back to the private collection of Josefine Edle von Krepl and lets you immerse yourself in women's fashion from around 1900 to the 1980s. The collector still leads tours of her collection herself!

Several friends raved about the fashion museum in Meyenburg Castle. During our visit, we were amazed at how many dresses from different periods from 1900 onwards are on display there. It is the former private collection of Josephine Edle von Krepl, a fashion designer from the former GDR, who ran the museum herself from its founding until her 74th birthday. Only about 10% of the collection is shown in the exhibition. We also liked the historical classification and the completion with photos and accessories from the time. We really liked it. Admission 8 euros, photo permission 2 euros. There is also a cute, authentic café with collectible crockery and a registry office in the castle.

The Old Castle (also called Castle) was built around 1556 on the remains of a moated castle. It is one of the most important buildings of the North German Renaissance. Now used for exhibitions and as a registry office.

The New Castle (also known as the “Fixed House”) was built at the beginning of the 16th century as a residential tower for the Rohr family, incorporating the Wittstock city gate. Today there is information and a museum shop there.

For the first time, a palace or castle complex in Freyenstein is documented for the year 1332. Whether this "robber baron's nest" is the origins of the old or the new castle remains unclear. What is certain, however, is that in 1556 Conrad von Rohr began building a three-wing palace complex - today often called a "castle" - in the eastern part of the palace park. more information: http://www.freyenstein.de/m/katalog/objekt.php?mandat=58466

The small town of Freyenstein seems a little deserted. But in the middle of the town rises the impressive castle with the attached Wittstock Gate. If you have a little time, it's worth taking a short tour of the castle park with the old castle ruins and the small lake. The complex was first mentioned in the 14th century.

Tourist Info Plau am See an der Burg

The historic castle tower in Plau am See is the remaining part of a fortification that was built in 1449 to stop the raids of the Brandenburg knights. During the Thirty Years' War, it offered protection against sieges and income from the Swedes and Saxons. At the end of the war, it was decided to grind down the weir system, which meant dismantling it. Only the castle tower was spared from this fate. The tower was not used until 1985 and was open to everyone, which made the children of Plau particularly happy, who had great adventures. The Museumsfreunde Plau am See also made it their task in 2000 to renovate the tower and make it attractive for visitors. Today the tower is a popular tourist destination in the region. With an intact clock tower from 1581 and a dungeon 11 meters deep, it offers an experience worth seeing.

Meyenburg Castle in the country town of Meyenburg in der Prignitz is a former aristocratic residence of the von Rohr family, which is now primarily used as a fashion museum. From the 14th century, Meyenburg Castle was property of the noble von Rohr family throughout, beginning around 1367 with Klaus von Rohr and further confirmed by his great-grandson Hans von Rohr in 1424. Soon a separate Meyenburg family line was formed, which passed on the estate. The property lasted until 1945, when it belonged to the von Rohr family, or rather the von Rohr-Wahlen-Jürgaß family, which, due to their wealth, was one of the dominant families in the Prignitz. Contrary to popular usage, it is not a castle in the narrower sense, but a palatial manor house that is complex for the region. The two-storey brick building consists of two wings and has the shape of an L. The building structure includes parts of the medieval town fortifications of Meyenburg and dates from the 15th century, the rest dates back to buildings from the 16th century. The refurbishment and repairs in the years 1996-2002 restored the condition of 1866. The castle is now used as a fashion museum, castle museum and public library. The castle and the castle park are listed monuments. Today's park goes back to a plant by the Berlin court gardener Fink in 1868, which over the years has become very wild and was restored in 1997. The park is bordered on the east by the Stepenitz. Until the land reform, Meyenburg Castle was a classic manor house with a manor. The Fashion Museum Schloss Meyenburg shows parts of the most comprehensive European fashion collection of 20th century clothing fashion from 1900 to 1970, which was put together by the East Berlin collector Josefine Edle von Krepl. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Meyenburg

After 15 years of construction, the painstakingly reconstructed Meyenburg Palace was reopened in 2006. It offers space for Germany's first fashion museum and the castle museum of the fashion association. It also houses the Meyenburg library. The ensemble of the castle includes a spacious park, which presents itself to the visitor in its original form after a fundamental redesign in 1998. At the opposite end of the park is the Hotel "Germania", which was rebuilt in 2005 and is based on the destroyed Art Nouveau model in terms of shape and facade. Here you will find accommodation and catering options. http://www.schloss-meyenburg.de/
