For city dwellers seeking recreation, this is a generously sized park. With its lawns, it invites visitors to barbecue, sunbathe, play, or simply relax in the summer. Plenty of walking paths lead around the pond, attracting many joggers as well. The park features a kiosk, a pétanque court, a paddling pool, a dog run, a playground, and ample benches for relaxing. A stand of mature trees provides shade on sunny, warm days. The pond is home to a variety of waterfowl.

The Tröndelsee Nature Reserve in southeast Kiel encompasses moorland meadows, reed beds, alder marshes, and the lake that gives it its name. It is home to a rich flora and fauna, including rare orchids and waterfowl. Several accessible circular trails with boardwalks invite visitors to experience and observe nature.

The Falckensteiner beach stretches from the Friedrichsort lighthouse (located on an island) to the north and ends at the border with the Kiel-Schilksee district. It is the longest bathing beach in Kiel and a popular local recreation area in Kiel. The southern part of the beach is bordered to the west by the Friedrichsort dike, in front of which marram grass and other dune plants have settled. The northern part of the beach goes into rising, wooded terrain (Brauner Berg) to the west. In the north there are 50 to 100 m wide dune areas (with marram grass, sedges, dune roses, sea buckthorn, etc.).

The Falckensteiner Beach is an approximately 2 km long bathing beach in Kiel (in the districts of Kiel-Pries and Friedrichsort) on the west bank of the Kiel Fjord / Baltic Sea.

From April 1st to October 31st, horses and dogs are only allowed on the animal beach between Schilksee and Falckenstein, and not on any other beach. Exceptions are only made for service dogs, guide dogs and companion dogs in use.
