The Moorteichwiese is a historic green space in the Südfriedhof district. It is located between the Königsweg, the St. Jürgen Church, the Winterbeker Weg and the Theodor-Heuss-Ring.

A beautiful, old, attractive little park, which can also be easily reached via the path from the Max Planck School in Winterbeker Weg at the roundabout 😉...

Nearby, a stately lime tree avenue leads to the hill above the Hummelwiese, the Kreienbarg. Behind the trees lies the former “Felsenhalle” inn, built in 1846, when the area was still rural and far from the city. The excursion restaurant and cellar system – the “Felsenkeller” – were created by the Willrodt brewery. From 1876 onwards, the Kiel Actien brewery took over the brewery site, and the “Felsenhalle” was converted into a home for the directors. In 1917 the brewing operation was stopped.
The octagonal tower of the house, which also served as a viewing platform for guests, originally housed the lifting device with which the beer barrels were brought to the surface. A shaft leads into the former cooling and storage rooms. From there a long, narrow corridor leads to the three halls in which the sought-after barley juice was produced.
