The building, the "Old Forge", now serves as a village community center and event location. But as the name suggests, the 19th century building was once used to practice a very old craft that was an essential part of any village at the time. As the craft lost more and more importance in the 20th century, the craft was abandoned and the old building became vacant. The Kyll Valley is a beautiful place, but I seriously underestimated the heat in the summer when it was 35 degrees! I was on the way and suddenly I ran out of water halfway through. The sun was burning mercilessly and I should have thought of a plan B. Drinking from the Kyll without a filter was out of the question for me - a little caution can't hurt. It was an educational experience and I'll definitely be better prepared next time!
