I immediately fell in love with this highlight. A fantastic valley road, fairly fresh ground, little traffic, lots of greenery, a few beautiful curves, a gentle downhill towards Altenahr, perfect for picking up the pace.

The former Augustinian monastery was built between 1162 and 1175. It was dissolved in 1803. The former monastery church now serves as a parish church and is dedicated to the holy martyr Leodegar of Autun.

The exact origins of Kerpen Castle are shrouded in the mists of history. It is considered very likely that its builder was Sigibertus de Kerpene, first mentioned in documents in 1136, or his son Heinrich I (1142–1177). However, an exact construction date cannot yet be given.
