To get to the viewing platform, you have to go past the Scharfenstein on the right and past the fireplace on the left. Then there is a rotten bench, there on the left you go to the viewing platform. However, this climb is NOT recommended with a dog, poor fitness and poor footwear,

The Scharfenstein is a basalt cone of a long-extinct volcano. Anyone who wants to climb there - sturdy shoes are a must - should at least have some experience. There was a fatal fall there in the past. If you just want to go climbing there, you can also do so by car. There is a car park right there on the A49 KASSEL - FRITZLAR. But the Scharfenstein is also a nice stopover/destination and rest area for hikers and cyclists.

There is a 12 meter high lookout tower on the mountain. Built in 1978 as a crumple tower, it was renamed the August Franke Tower in 1984. To the west, a little below the summit, there is a 46-meter-high steel-frame transmission tower for the Deutsche Bundespost.
