The construction of the 28 meter high tower is very exciting. The built-in larch heartwood is extraordinarily resistant and the diagonal double-tong construction means that the tower can give way in the event of wind or when subjected to loads with lateral kinks. You notice it by a slight swaying after you have climbed the 123 steps and stand on the viewing platform.

Even more impressive than the construction is the sensational view from the tower, because you are here on the desert garden (675 meters), the highest elevation in the Kellerwald-Edersee region, and can see far into the surrounding land.

If you want to linger a little longer after all the impressions, you will find nice picnic areas for a little break at the foot of the tower.

The basement forest tower was built from resistant larch heartwood. It has 123 steps. Because of its deliberately flexible but stable construction in a diagonal double-pliers construction, the tower gives way in cross winds or when loaded with a lateral buckling. The visitor notices this by a slight sway.

Benches and tables were set up outdoors at the foot of the observation tower. The ground floor of the tower serves as a shelter, in which there are additional benches and information boards about the flora, fauna, geology and history of the cellar forest.

The cellar forest tower on the Wüstegarten is the highest elevation in the Schwalm-Eder district at 675 m.

The 28 m high Kellerwald Tower, which was officially inaugurated on May 9, 2004, has stood on the top of the Wüstegarten since autumn 2003. It replaces the 18 m high observation tower from 1971.
