Veluwezoom is the oldest national park in Holland. This hilly landscape with forest, heath and shifting sand has been a protected area since 1931. You can wander freely on the paths and trails and there are plenty of opportunities for horseback riding, cycling and mountain biking. Don't be surprised if you suddenly come face to face with a red deer or a wild boar on the Veluwezoom.

This area can be reached on foot via a spectacularly high bridge from the Waalkade in Nijmegen. The route to the Ooijse Bandijk is recommended by bike. A wonderful place to enjoy nature and bird watching. The areas of Stadswaard, Oude Waal, De Groenlanden and De Bisonbaai form a nature reserve of approximately 435 hectares with water and pasture areas. It wasn't long ago that much of this area was farmland. Herds of wild cattle and horses have been grazing here since 2003. Since 2009 the areas have been connected and have a transition to the Millingerwaard.
