The water tower remained in operation until 1985. With its then state-of-the-art technology and its 500,000-liter water tank, it contributed to the drinking water supply. In 2000, the tower was opened to visitors and has since become a landmark.

Generations have built this building for more than 700 years. The north side of the town hall consists of many buildings lined up next to one another. The complex is 111 meters long and about 40 meters wide. It served the leading upper class as a meeting place, as a court seat, for administration and for representation. Today the town hall is one of the largest and most important in Germany.
