The banks of the Elbe, especially near Stiepelse, have a peace and beauty that captivates cyclists and nature enthusiasts alike. As the tires roll quietly along the path next to the mighty river, a panorama reveals itself that has its own charm in every season. The view over the Elbe from the Deichweg is a constantly changing natural spectacle, characterized by the gentle flow of the water and the vast landscape. In Stiepelse itself, a village with more than 800 years of history, you can feel the deep connection the people have with their land and the Elbe. The classic way to cross rivers is still by ferry. You can use the crossing to relax for a bit and/or take a few photos. While you're at it, observe nature and/or chat with the ferrywoman.

Stiepelse is a pretty village that is located directly on the Elbe dike (and the Elbe cycle path). There are several restaurants here that cyclists can use to take a break (also with charging options for e-bikes). The Stiepelser Elbdeich offers a wonderful view of the Elbe. I always like to stop here for a break when I pass here on one of my bike tours.

Hitzacker's old town (on the town island) lies between the Jeetzel and Elbe rivers and is always worth a visit. There are some pretty, old half-timbered houses to see here. You can get a wonderful view of the town island and the Elbe from the vineyard, which is on the opposite (western) side of the Jeetzel from the old town. On the northern side of the town island there is a flood protection wall, behind which lies Hitzacker's marina and meadows about 120-150 meters wide, behind which the Elbe flows.
