The old town is full of historic half-timbered houses with beautiful carvings, especially the Ratsapotheke on the water tower makes something and offers great views. The Abtsmühle and the Alte Kran an der Ilmenau are also worth a look.

@Andi correct. This part of Lüneburg that you mean is the actual old town. The part that all the pictures show is the Schifferviertel. Also a beautiful, old part of the city but not the old town from the "Gründerzeit" within the city wall. It's a shame that everyone thinks that the shipping district around the Stint is the old town 😞
