If you cross the old Jeetzel River, you'll get to the other side. It's okay to walk, but I'd prefer to drive a bit further, where you can easily cross over a road bridge.

Hitzacker's old town (on the town island) lies between the Jeetzel and Elbe rivers and is always worth a visit. There are some pretty, old half-timbered houses to see here. You can get a wonderful view of the town island and the Elbe from the vineyard, which is on the opposite (western) side of the Jeetzel from the old town. On the northern side of the town island there is a flood protection wall, behind which lies Hitzacker's marina and meadows about 120-150 meters wide, behind which the Elbe flows.

A great bike path along the Elbe with rest stops at perfectly chosen intervals and nice places to stop for refreshments.

Beautiful view of the Elbe and sandy beach on the banks of the Elbe. You can cross the Elbe here on foot or by bike on a small Elbe ferry. Also a nice location to take photos, e.g. during sunrise or sunset time.
