The Elbe ferry Tanja connects District Road 19 with District Road 61 at kilometer 536.5 of the Elbe, connecting the towns of Neu Darchau and Darchau.
The ferry operates year-round and travels continuously between the two piers.
A crossing takes approximately five minutes. On weekdays, Tanja operates between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., and on Sundays and public holidays from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
In 2007, according to the company's own information, the ferry crossed the Elbe 60,000 times. An average of 495 cars and a total of 436,000 passengers were transported daily.

A nice way to cross the Elbe and get to Hitzacker or Bleckede on the north side. On the north side you can drive on the dike and admire the entire Elbe panorama.
If you drive along the Storchenstrasse along the Elbe to Hitzacker, you have to be prepared for a lot. There are strenuous climbs (approx. 12%) and rapid descents, every Elbe mountain is approached. The route is approximately 17 km long. This area is also popular with motorcyclists; there are also some serpentine roads in this area.
