The chapel of St. Margareta and the village were first mentioned in 1307 as a Luxembourg fief. In 1576 the church was a branch of Tondorf. The valuable furnishings of the old church are thanks to the Counts of Blankenheim. It has been an independent parish church since 1804. The old church was a hall church with three axes and a mighty west tower and a small choir closed on three sides. This old church was demolished in 1923 and replaced by the new building that stands today. Only the Romanesque tower, originally built as a defensive tower, remained. In 1583, Johann Zimmermann von Frohnhofen was the tenant of the mill in the "Drießbach", which belonged to the Dukes of Arenberg. In 1794, the tenant Johannes Helten paid nine malters of grain, a pig worth at least 150 pounds and a chicken as annual rent. The Duke of Arenberg's mill was still in operation until the end of the 19th century. The historic mill is located in the romantic Dreisbach valley and is a point of departure for many wonderful hiking routes.

From the slightly higher hiking trail, you can reach the shore of Lake Freilinger in several places via small paths.
