Bad Münstereifel, also known as Outlet City, is a very lively Eifel town. Many outdoor shops and fashion stores are located in the city center. A lot was destroyed in the 2021 flood, but much more has been rebuilt/reproduced here than in many other affected communities.

The Werther Gate, located in the north of the old town, is the youngest of the four city gates. It was rebuilt after it collapsed during a flood in 1416. On the exterior, above the arched portal, hang the coats of arms of the Duchy of Jülich and the city of Münstereifel. The building now houses the Natural History Museum.

The city center of Bad Münstereifel is (along with the villages along the Ahr) one of those places that were particularly hard hit by the heavy rain catastrophe in July 2021. Virtually the entire city center was under water when you look at the peacefully rippling river Erft today, simply unimaginable. In the meantime, the traces of the devastation have been erased almost everywhere.
